Help Keep Warm

Whoops!  Almost got out of the blog groove!  Thankfully, I stumbled across a really great reason to stop in and get back in the swing of things.

 A few really great people over on the East Coast have started a Sandy Craft-A-Long to help get some cozy things to the people who are cold with out electricity in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.  You can read all about how to help here.  I dug deep into my finished item with no home stash and came up with these.  Three scarves that I knit a while ago with no reason in mind except to knit them.  I had long ago decided that they should be saved for a donation such as this, and alas, the time has come.  I tagged each scarf with the yarn content and a note of our good thoughts and will be sending them off to warm necks and hopefully hearts on the other side of the Country.  

Cozy Morning

The sun is out and has dried up all the rain.  It is a perfect fall afternoon out there!  This morning too, was a perfect fall morning.  Cold, wet, rainy & blustery.  I really did enjoy having an occasion to turn on the twinkle lights in my office and turn up the oven to bake breakfast.  Here's our recipe for a Dutch Baby/German Pancake for anyone interested:

Dutch Baby

Preheat oven to 425'

Mix until smooth:
     4 eggs
     1/2  cup milk
     1/2 cup flour
     1/2 tbsp. sugar
     Pinch of salt

Melt 2 tbsp. unsalted butter in an all-clad or cast iron frying pan.  (has to go in the oven)  When butter is melted, pour in the batter and immediatly transfer to the heated oven.  Bake for 12-15 minutes until large, puffy and golden.  We like ours with maple syrup & powdered sugar or just plain!

Fall Feeling

Ooh finally, the weather has changed!!  Fall is, hands down, my favorite time of year.  I think it has to do with the general coziness of it.  Baking, knitting, long nights.  Today was overcast & rainy (a little at least) and really let me know that Fall had arrived. 

Now I do have a day job, but I work from home, so these cozy activities were stolen away on breaks and such. 

I made time for a little spinning.

Baked.  After I saw Alicia's brownies over at Posie Gets Cozy, I knew I needed to make them, fast!

My mouth was watering when Greg brought home this weeks bounty in our CSA box.  Fall veggies too!  Potatoes, lettuce, chard, radish, & butternut squash, plus a few lingering summertime favorites, peppers & tomatoes. 

Even my little friend Phoebe felt the chill in the air and asked me to get out her sweater. 

Here's to having many more pleasant fall afternoons!

Thinking Ahead

I started this pair of mittens on Saturday night after I finished the Imogen Tee.  I have big dreams of making everyone in my immediate family a really killer gift this year.  In year's past, I have made many of the gifts, but not all and they were mostly scarves, iPod cozies, etc.  This year, I'm aiming high. I'm loving this pattern so much that it is a good possibility that multiple pairs are made, but lets just say that this particular pair has specific intentions...

S.O.S.

I remember as a kid, people asking my Dad how things were going, and his reply often being, "Same Old S**t".  haha, well, if anyone were to ask me the same thing, that would be my answer.  Not much as changed since my first post in 2010 (oops!).  So I just want to shop by and try and get back in the groove of this.  So for day, I offer a short hello, i'm back, and photo of my friend, Phoebe.
